✈️ Before You Fly: A Bangladeshi Traveler’s Easy Checklist for a Stress-Free Trip

🌸 Every Great Journey Begins with a Plan

Travel isn’t just about flying somewhere new — it’s about how smoothly you prepare before takeoff.
A smart travel plan saves time, money, and countless small headaches later on.

From my own experience of traveling abroad more than 22 times to over 12 countries, I’ve realized one thing: those who prepare early always travel better.
So here’s a simple, real-world guide for anyone planning a foreign trip — written in friendly language, the way we talk every day.

🛫 Air Tickets: The Earlier, The Better

If you’re planning to travel abroad, start preparing at least two months in advance.
Book your air ticket about six weeks before your trip to catch good discounts or deals.

Airfare mainly depends on three things:

  • How early you book
  • Which day you fly (weekday or weekend)
  • Which airline you choose

Usually, weekday fares are cheaper than weekends.
Try to plan your departure mid-week for the best rates.

And always book through a trusted travel agent instead of using your own credit card.
Paying directly with your card in foreign currency can cost more and reduce your annual foreign transaction limit.

🏨 Accommodation: Choose Smart, Not Fancy

If you’re traveling with family or a group, use Agoda or Booking.com.
For solo travelers, Airbnb often offers cheaper and homier stays.

Before booking, always check reviews, facilities, and most importantly, location.
Try to stay close to public transport or major attractions — it’ll save both time and money.

Use Google Maps to explore what’s nearby (ATM, subway, bus stop, or restaurants).
Book at least one month in advance, and make sure your stay offers free cancellation for safety.

💳 Cards and Payment Tips

Get a dual currency prepaid card from banks like EBL or others — it’s easy now.
Bring your passport, endorse dollars, and then call the bank to enable ATM, e-commerce, and POS gateways.
If those aren’t activated, your card may not work abroad.

📱 Mobile and Connectivity

Activating roaming has become super easy nowadays.
Buy a data + voice roaming package before you leave — your same number will work overseas.

The best part? You can still use Bkash and other mobile financial apps while abroad.

🎟️ Tourist Attractions & Entry Fees

I personally use Klook.com for booking tickets to attractions.
A week before your trip, buy tickets for major tourist spots through Klook or another verified app.
You’ll save both time and money — no long queues or foreign currency spending at the counter.

💰 Cash & Currency

Since most of your bookings (flights, hotels, attractions) are prepaid, you won’t need to carry much cash.
Just bring enough for food, local transport, and shopping.
Still, it’s wise to carry a small amount of local currency for your first ride from the airport to your hotel.

Remember: currency exchange rates are usually lower at foreign airports, so exchange a bit from home before departure.

🧳 Packing & Preparation

About a week before your flight, sit down and explore your destination on Google Maps.
Plan your routes and transport — ride-sharing, metro, tram, or bus — whichever fits your budget best.

If you prefer ride-sharing, install the popular local apps in advance.

Next, make a packing checklist.
Check the weather at your destination and pack accordingly.
If you take medicines regularly, carry them with their prescriptions, in case airport security asks or you need to buy the same group of medicine abroad.

Most hotels now provide toothpaste, brush, and towels, so don’t overload your luggage.
Pack enough clothes to avoid wasting time doing laundry on your trip.

🛬 Airport & Final Prep

For international flights, reach the airport at least 3 hours early (2 hours for domestic).
Keep both soft and hard copies of your flight ticket, hotel booking, visa, and attraction passes.

If immigration officers ask questions, answer confidently — never hesitate.

And yes, airport food is expensive — have a light meal before you leave home.
Also, exchange rates are often poor at destination airports, so it’s better to carry some local cash from Bangladesh.

📍 Learn to Use Google Maps

This one’s crucial.
Abroad, you may not always find someone who can give you accurate directions.
In those moments, Google Maps will be your best companion.

🌿 Final Thoughts

Traveling abroad isn’t just about sightseeing — it’s about learning, exploring, and growing.
A little planning beforehand can make your entire journey smoother, safer, and more memorable.

From my 22 international trips, I’ve learned one simple truth:
The earlier you prepare, the better you travel.
